Those of you who have fathered a child may understand what it feels like to hold your little one in your arms knowing that you haven’t the ability to give him the one thing that would wipe away the tears. I stood there with my boy in my arms as helpless as a fireman trying to explain to a child that he can’t retrieve her favorite pet from the burning house.

I found out that the church exists in the NICU at Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs, not because it was in a building. It was not even in a building as our culture defines church. The church existed because 2 or more followers of Christ were present. ..

I’ll never forget the circumstances surrounding this picture.  Julie and I were on our 10th anniversary cruise a couple weeks ago.  I’m not a fan of beaches and sand.  When I vacation, I love to see the people and places.  Julie likes to sit on a beach and “veg out.”  Normally this works because I’ll go shoot pictures or see the town while she hangs out in the sand.

Is this what Jesus is whispering to me, “I don’t want you to do anything right this minute – I just want to be close to you.” for so long I’ve been so busy trying to do… that I’ve forgotten how important it is to be. Am I the only one who cares that I’m drying up in my soul? No I’m not. Jesus cares.

This past Thursday John looked at my wife or me (I can’t really remember which) and said, “Failure is not failure, quitting is failure.”
Have you ever experienced a moment when you felt like a DVD player that someone just paused or even more like a CD that is skipping. The conversation continues… time marches on… but you are just stuck in a moment already past? It was like that. I couldn’t move beyond those words!

How many times has it happened to you. You knew what you wanted to say, but it just came out wrong. How many tears has your wife, or mother, or significant other shed because you said something stupid? Or worse yet, how many times have you said something you really meant, but in your right mind and apart from anger wouldn’t have said it to save your life if you knew how bad it would hurt…

There is something about super heroes that makes every little boy want to be one. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the super powers or catching the bad guy or maybe it’s getting the hot girl. But there is something about it that consumes us. Maybe it takes us to a place where we are something different… something more than we have become.
